Stand Here and Be Awesome

Honor those who have put work into building their networks, admire their accolades, and glean from what they have learned. It will help you be better at what you do.

But, above all, quell your jealousy of their accomplishments in the notion that in the end we are all teachers. There is nothing more special about their students than yours. All students, regardless of external diversity, have the same human desire to connect deeply with others and to engage in a meaningful way with the world. The amazing thing about being a teacher is that we all get that chance to help them (and each other) achieve that.  The first year teacher’s students are no less significant than those of the most rescent Teacher of the Universe Award winner. The most connected principal’s staff is no less in need of inspirational leadership than the principal that refuses to connect at all.

Don’t let other’s accomplishments distract you. Don’t waste your time thinking that you are insignificant. Focus instead on the amazing opportunity you have to positively impact the lives of others. Stand proudly where you are and be awesome!
